Setting Grabber™ Preferences Each of the Grabber tools has a preferences setting which can be accessed by double-clicking on the desired tool. Each preference dialog is described below: Text Grabber Preferences   Show Startup Icon: When this item is checked, the scrolling Text Grabber startup icon will be displayed when QuarkXPress is launched. Fast Scan Mode: When Fast Scan Mode is enabled, Text Grabber uses a different search method to determine the location of text within the marquee area. This Fast Scanning method can be up to 3 times faster than the standard scanning method. The trade-off is that, under rare circumstances (such as a heavily kerned, overlapping character pair which falls exactly at the edge of the marquee area), the Fast Scanning method may be slightly less accurate in determining character positions than the standard method. It is best to first try Text Grabber with the Fast Scan option enabled. If you have any problems, simply uncheck the Fast Scan option to use the standard scanning method. The Fast Scan preferences option takes affect immediately, making it very easy for you to test the performance increase that Fast Scan Mode provides. Save Previous Entries: With this option enabled, each time you click OK the current Text Grabber settings will be stored. The next time you drag out a Text Grabber marquee, those settings will be restored. This feature allows you to change more than one area very quickly by holding down the Command-Control buttons while drawing your Text Grabber marquee. Enable Hot Keys: This option enables the Text Grabber Undo/Redo hot key (Cmd-Option-Z). Should this hot key sequence present any conflict (perhaps with another XTension), simply uncheck this option and the hot key will be disabled. Note that you will still be able to access the Undo/Redo feature by using the Grabber™ menu available under Quark’s Edit menu. Tab Grabber Preferences   Show Startup Icon: When this item is checked, the scrolling Tab Grabber startup icon will be displayed when QuarkXPress is launched. Save Previous Entries: With this option enabled, each time you click OK the current Tab Grabber settings will be stored. The next time you drag out a Tab Grabber marquee, those settings will be restored. This feature allows you to change more than one area very quickly by holding down the Command-Control keys when drawing your Tab Grabber marquee. Enable Hot Keys: This option enables the Tab Grabber Undo/Redo hot key (Cmd-Option-Z). Should this hot key sequence present any conflict (perhaps with another XTension), simply un-check this option and the hot key will be disabled. Note that you will still be able to access the Undo/Redo feature by using the Grabber™ menu available under Quark’s Edit menu. Std. Nudge: The value entered here will be applied to each tab stop within the Tab Grabber marquee area whenever the nudge arrow is clicked. You may change this value using any unit of measure. For instance, enter .125" to change the default nudge value to 1/8". Opt. Nudge: The value entered here will be applied to each tab stop within the Tab Grabber marquee area whenever the nudge arrow is clicked while holding down the Option key at the same time. Like the Standard Nudge Preference, you may change the value using any unit of measure. Copy Grabber Preferences   General Preferences Show Startup Icon: When this item is checked, the scrolling Copy Grabber startup icon will be displayed when QuarkXPress is launched. Fast Scan Mode: When Fast Scan Mode is enabled, Copy Grabber uses a different search method to determine the location of text within the marquee area. It is best to first try Copy Grabber with the Fast Scan option enabled. If you have any problems, simply uncheck the Fast Scan option to use the standard scanning method. Enable Hot Keys: This option enables the Copy Grabber Undo/Redo hot key (Cmd-Option-Z) as well as the Copy Grabber Paste hot key (Cmd-Option-V). Should this hot key sequence present any conflict (perhaps with another XTension), simply uncheck this option and the hot keys will be disabled. Note that you will still be able to access the Undo/Redo or the Paste feature by using the Grabber™ menu available under Quark’s Edit menu. Special Preferences Paste Blank Lines: When Copy Grabber is used to Cut or Copy text, any blank lines which fall into the marquee area are also copied to the clipboard. When you perform a paste, this option lets you decide how the blank lines will be handled. If the option is enabled, then the blank lines will be pasted as well. If the option is disabled, all blank lines will be “compressed”, and will not be pasted by Copy Grabber. Include Attributes: When text is Cut or Copied using Copy Grabber, the text attributes associated with that text are also stored. If this option is enabled, when the contents of the Copy Grabber clipboard are pasted, the text attributes will be pasted as well. If this option is disabled, when the contents of the Copy Grabber clipboard are pasted, the text attributes will be ignored. Consequently, the inserted text will pick up the text attributes which are in effect at the insertion point of each line. Smart Tabs™: This checkbox is used to enable or disable the Smart Tabs feature. Auto EOL: The Auto EOL (End-Of-Line) option allows you to specify the character that Copy Grabber will insert at the end of a line when a paste operation causes new lines of text to be created. This can occur, for example, when a column of text has been copied, and then pasted into an empty text box, or pasted into a column that had fewer rows than the column that was originally copied. Print Grabber Preferences   Show Startup Icon: When this item is checked, the scrolling Print Grabber startup icon will be displayed when QuarkXPress is launched. Install Menu Separator: You have the option of inserting a menu separator bar before the Print Box... menu item which appears under the Quark File menu. When this option is checked, it separates the Print Box... option from other menu options which may appear under the File menu. This option will take affect the next time QuarkXPress is launched. Enable Page Range Warning: If this option is checked, Print Grabber will tell you the page range to enter in the Laser Writer dialog box (if your document contains more than one page). If you do not specify the page range, Print Grabber will print the selected area from all pages of your document. If this option is unchecked, Print Grabber will not warn you of the page range, however, the correct page range must still be entered in the Laser Writer dialog box.
